Coach Tony Abalos
Instructor
Coach Tony Abalos began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2013 while serving as a Correctional Officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections. Seeking a safer and more effective way to control and detain larger, resistant offenders, Tony turned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to develop practical grappling and control techniques. What began as a professional necessity quickly became a lifelong passion.
Tony brings more than 15 years of military, law enforcement, corrections, and leadership experience to the mats. A U.S. Army Combat Infantry veteran, he served during Operations Iraqi Freedom I and III before earning a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Sciences, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He later served with the Georgia Department of Corrections and the Georgia Department of Community Supervision in specialized tactical and community supervision roles.
In addition to his martial arts experience, Tony has served as a firearms instructor for more than four years. His coaching philosophy emphasizes strong fundamentals, practical self-defense, and creating a positive learning environment where students of all ages can build confidence, discipline, resilience, and respect both on and off the mats. Outside the academy, he enjoys spending time with his family, kayak fishing, exploring Florida’s waterways, and continuing to develop his skills through firearms training.
